Concerns over sanitary conditions in Haitian camps
More than a month after the earthquake, sanitary conditions in Haitian camps continue to degrade. With the stage set for outbreaks of cholera, typhoid, and shigellosis, camp conditions will be at greater risk as the rainy season approaches. The problems are exacerbated by the lack of a municipal sewage system and treatment facility--neither of which were present even before the January disaster.
