The Kaiser Family Foundation has a fact sheet for Haiti where you can view summary population characteristics, key health indicators, and levels and types of development financing at a glance. You can easily compare statistics from Haiti to data at the global level or from other specific countries.

A few telling statistics:
  • Even before the earthquake hit, only 58% of Haitians had access to clean water and less than 20% had access to sanitation.
  • More than half of the population was undernourished; similarly, over half the population was living on less than $1 per day.
  • In 2008, Haiti received approximately $80 million from in US Food Assistance funding.
  • In 2007, 120,000 Haitians were living with HIV/AIDS, comprising 2.2% of the entire population.
  • TB incidence rates are over 300 per 100,000 population, giving Haiti the highest per capita rate in Latin America and the Caribbean.
